La Roche Bernard
Born from the sea. La Roche Bernard owes its charms
to the river that shapes the landscape of the area – The Vilaine.
La Roche Bernard has become a privileged place for meetings of gastronomy,
tourism and history. Quality hallmarks such as “petite cite
de caractiere”, “Port bleu d’europe” and
“ route des Ducs de Bretagne” have been awarded to the
city, reflecting its rich and attractive patrimony.
Maison de l’Abeille
In the centre of this quaint, thousand year old
town stands a big old house overlooking the harbour. This is Maison
de l’Abeille, a museum introducing visitors to the mysterious
world of bees.
Discover the life of the bee, the beekeepers work and folk art relating
to it from prehistoric times to the present day. See through hives,
watch the combs being gathered and honey being extracted. Sample
the honey, mead, gingerbread and sweets that are for sale. Discover
over 100 products made from honey and its by-products: royal jelly,
pollen, propolis etc.
Penestin
Penestin has 25 kilometres of coast, much of it sandy beaches such as the landmarked site of la Mine d’Or
and its golden cliffs, many beaches of fine sand, wild creeks and
the little fishing port of Trehiguier where Penestin mussels grow by their thousands. On load or on shoal, on
tractors and flat boats, the musselbreeders mind the stakes and the
crops, adapting to weather and tide.
Visit the exhibition “ Of Mussels and Men” in the old
lighthouse at the port of Trehiguier to see the astonishing life-cycle
of the mussel and the skills of its breeders. It displays plankton
life, tools and of course a few recipes.
Musee de la Soie @ CAMPEL
Introduces you to the secret world of silk. Let yourself
be fascinated by silkroad. Silkworms and silks.
Parc de Prehistoire de Bretagne-@ MALANSAC
Brittanys prehistoric park is set in a twenty hectare extraordinary
wild, wooded setting which includes 5 spectacular lakes, ancient
wells and slate quarries.
As you stroll along the marked path, you will see nearly 30 life-
size scenes of people and animals. Firstly dinosaurs in their geological
period, then human evolution will unfold before your very eyes,
from our most distant ancestor Homo erectus, Brittanys first inhabitant
(500 000 years BC) to the people who erected the menhirs or standing
stones(around 2000 BC)
Ocearium du Croisic @ LE CROISIC
In all 45 aquariums covering 3 oceans
Once you have admired the many atlantic species: octopus, sharks
scorpion fish, john dory- set of for the tropics with the clown
fish from the red sea and moray eels of the carribean . Walk through
the underwater tunnels to discover sharks, groupers and winged rays
swimming quietly around you.
This is first and foremost a live exhibition including a one million
litre fish tank where sharks, rays and barracudas from Australia
swim, but it is also an educational and play area
The ocearium mascot .the penguins are always a success, especially
when dinner is served at 11am, 3 and 5pm. Don’t miss the show!
Insectarium- LIZIO
This is a meeting place for the mysterious insect
world. You will find out here what an insect is, you will meet insects-
mans helpers, engineers and architects; species used as pedagogical
tools, species living all around the world:- praying mantis, goliaths,
trap door spiders, scorpions, centipedes…..
Jardin aux Papillons – Vannes
All around you hundreds of exotic butterflies
fly freely, gather nectar and breed among luxuriant plants and rare
flowers. Here you can feel, you can hear, you can touch and you
can explore the tropical world.
Musee de Prehistoire – Carnac
More than 6.000 artefacts specially selected for
their scientific interest as well as their aesthetic qualities.These
testimonies of the past will allow you to better know the everyday
life of the inhabitants of carnac who dwelt in the area a long time
ago.
Manoir de l’Automobile – Loheac
Small on the outside – huge inside. The
car museum spans 14,000 m2 and must be at least one of the biggest
motor displays in Europe. Halls of vehicles from penny farthings
to formula 1s – how many red Ferraris can you count? Don’t
like cars – go anyway you can always console yourself in the
cider bar!
La Ferme du Monde – Carentoir
Wander round the 25 hectares visiting 5 continents
and 400 animals.
Play mini golf, basket ball, boules, take a pony ride, all free
of charge. Visit the farmyard. Daily exhibitions of wool works,
jam & bread-making. Sale of farm produce. Drinks and snacks
.Open air picnic area.
Tropical Parc – St Jacut les Pins
Take a tour of the tropical world among animals
and exotic plants in a park of 8 acres with over 1000 m2 of covered
display. Discover the marvels of Asian art, make your own sweet
music in La maison musicale. View the fascinating flowers in the
orchid house and make sure you don’t miss the grande spectacle
at 1530hrs daily.
Moulin de Pen-Mur – Muzillac
Invented in China in the 2nd century, paper is
without doubt the most fabulous creation of man.
The artisans of Moulin de Pen- Mur keep the tradition of paper making
alive using their craftsmanship to make paper from natural fibre
cloths following 18th century methods. Visiting Le Moulin you’ll
discover paper being made on ancient machines, lovingly restored
and working in their original manner.
Les Megalithes de Monteneuf – Guer-Coetquidan -
Les Pierres Droites – The Standing Stones
Situated on top of one of the highest points in
the area this is now regarded as one of the major features of its
kind in Brittany. To date more than 400 monoliths have been listed
spread across 7 hectares. The weight and size of the menhirs range
from a few decimetres to 5 or 6 metres and from a few hundred kilos
to over 30 tons.
Branfere – Le Guerno ( Muzillac)
Set in over 35 hectares, take a picnic to
enjoy ½ way round this multicentury botanical park. Over
2000 animals of the world enjoying the freedom of their own moated
islands and paddocks, designed to allow them to live in something
approaching their natural habitat whilst you observe them on this
unforgettable walk through the rich vegetation which includes, ancient
trees, azaleas, rhododendrons, hydrangeas
