Golfing at La Bretesche
The Domaine de la Bretesche 18-hole golf course is almost 40 years old, sheltered by forest which is a century-old.
La Bretesche is one of the most beautiful in France, maybe even in the world, and is listed by Robert Sidorwsky, in his work « Le golf : 365 parcours dans le monde ».
Its design, created by Henry Cotton, fits beautifully into the elegant setting, with the towers and ramparts of the château majestically forming the background. To stimulate your taste for prowess, a magnificent 6080m par 72. Passionate about your swing ?
The poetry of nature ? Let yourself be enticed by both. The fairways, mown in a check pattern, are bright green and surrounded by the finest species of trees. The hydrangeas and rhododendrons watch you get off to a good start while the velvet greens stand proudly by. Here, beginners can hope to earn distinction. A 9-hole compact course is designed similarly to the 18-hole one for them to try their hand at their own pace. Accomplished golfers can use it to get back into the swing of things.
Such feats deserve a reward.
The Club House, built in the outhouses of the château, comes into sight just at the right time to provide welcome refreshment and bring the experience to a perfect close.
La Bretesche is 15 minutes from our gite (south to Missillac, and then west - La Bretesche is about 1 mile on the right hand side). The web site http://www.golf-bretesche.com/ has full details.
